This thinly fictionalized account of Claude Brown's childhood as a hardened, streetwise criminal trying to survive the toughest streets of Harlem has been heralded as the definitive account of everyday life for African Americans raised in the northern ghettos of the 1940s and '50s. One of the most remarkable autobiographies of our time, Manchild in the Promised Land is a seminal work of modern literature published during a literary era marked by the ascendance of black writers like Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, James Baldwin, and Alex Haley. ![]()

Boyfriend and girlfriend? Brother and sister? It’s obvious she knows him, and is very annoyed by how close he flew the drone to her, but what’s not obvious at all is what their relationship is. A look at the Evil Dead Rise extended previewĮvil Dead Rise, Warner Bros. ![]() Just long enough to be slightly annoying and uncomfortable.īut how was the rest of the first 10 minutes? Let’s put it this way: it was enough to help me understand why Evil Dead Rise received high praise at this year’s SXSW Film Fest. ![]() It offers a sneak peek of the movie’s first 10 minutes, which starts with a jarring, buzzy, above-ground zoom through a forest while the opening credits roll. ![]() Thanks to it sparking my curiosity, I watched the extended preview, which became available this week courtesy of Vudu, the video-on-demand streaming service from Fandango. However, it all started with the trailer, which looked freaky AF. But now I do after watching the Evil Dead Rise extended preview. And I definitely never expected to feel compelled to want to watch the latest installment. I had no desire to see any of the other movies in the franchise. The Evil Dead was one of those horror movies that just didn’t do it for me. In fact, I’m going to make a bold confession. ![]() ![]() ![]() I looked at a lot of them - at least at first - and found quite a few that were funny, charming, or added some insight into the world around me. Redfall is the most recent game to feature the typical approach to lore, and it’s easy to see why it doesn’t work. ![]() There’s a problem with the standard way lore drops are delivered. I’m one of those people who really enjoy taking my time with games to soak it all in, but if I’m being completely honest, I hardly ever sit there and read the stuff when I find it. ![]() I even think writing bits of lore for people to find would be a fun and fulfilling job for me someday. I like to read tie-in novels and prequels to games, and I fall asleep listening to MyNameIsByf and Nobbel87 explaining Destiny and Warcraft lore. I’m a huge lore junkie when it comes to games. My problem is that I am exactly the person that likes that kind of thing, and yet I still don’t read them most of the time.
